NOTICE
RE: TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF WAYNE CIRCUIT COURT

In light of the closure of Wayne Circuit Court (Civil & Family) until at least Monday July 7, the Court of Appeals Clerk's Office recognizes that filers may be unable to submit with initiating pleadings such trial court documents as a register of actions, transcript request form generated by the office of court reporting, or perhaps the order appealed.

Initiating pleadings should continue to be filed within the appropriate deadlines and the omission of any required documents that is caused by the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center (CAYMC) closure should be remedied within 7 days of the restoration of public access to the CAYMC offices of the circuit court. If the filing is an emergency appeal and the order appealed is unavailable due to the CAYMC closure, we will work with the parties on a case-by-case basis to determine a reasonable solution.

Attorneys who have been warned that specified court reporter certificates or transcripts must be filed by July 3 to avoid dismissal of an appeal will be given until 7 days after the restoration of public access to the CAYMC offices of the circuit court to secure the filing.

If you have questions about how to proceed in a specific case, please call the Detroit office at 313/972-5678.

Sandra Mengel
Chief Clerk

E-Filing Program Expanded to Include Electronic Service of Documents. The Court of Appeals electronic filing program has recently been expanded to include electronic service of documents. Although appeals from MPSC orders are presently the only class of cases included in the electronic filing program, the advent of electronic service allows the Court to plan for expansion of the program to other types of cases during 2008.
